Podcast #4 – Brad Waggoner on Calvinism, the Gospel and the SBC

Brad WaggonerOn my recent trip to Nashville, I met with Dr. Brad Waggoner from LifeWay Research to record this podcast interview. Dr. Waggoner is a former professor and Dean at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Special thanks to Trevin Wax who joined me for the conversation, helped prepare the interview questions, and found the right door to enter the LifeWay complex.

Here are some of the topics we discussed:

  • How do you summarize the Gospel?
  • How does LifeWay Research choose topics?
  • In your opinion, will Calvinism continue its comeback in the SBC?
  • What do you think will become of the PPL issues in the SBC?
  • What are the most unhealthy trends in the American church?
  • What do you think the SBC will be like in 20 years?

Join the conversation – leave your opinion in the comments.

Just for fun – here I am at the Billy Graham monument.

  1. Scott says:

Good interview! Very personable on your part and Dr. Waggoner.

I share his view on preaching — its not an end-all. It is the beginning point to the personal interaction of a pastor with his flock.

I like the guitar lick for the intro/end.

Great picture to go along with a Lifeway employee — (cheesy Billy Graham impersonation) “Woncha come?! We’ve got lit-uh-ruh-cha…”

  3. Thank you for a gracious interview with Dr. Waggoner. His attitude and heart is exemplary. I, too, agree that preaching is not an “end-all.” It is a means to an end. However, if you do not have good, solid, expositional preaching you will not reach the biblical end. You must have the proper means to reach the proper end.

  4. Excellent. Thanks Tony.
